    The Lady Generals softball team is on fire as they continue to dominate league opponents. Last Tuesday the ladies won a thriller in Taft, 8-5.     The Lady Generals softball team took on Arvin March 11, and they dominated the game, winning 23-3. Then, on March 13, the Generals took on McFarland, and they run ruled the Cougars by the 5th inning, winning by a final of 28-0. Nat Espinoza had a dominating performance versus the Cougars, with 15 strikeouts. The Generals' record is now 3-0 in league play, which puts them in a tie for first with Cesar Chavez.     This past week the Generals baseball team played in the Wasco Tournament. The Generals went 2-1 in a tournament with very good competition. They lost the first game by a very close contest by a score of 2-1. Then they picked it up the second game by beating Mcfarland, 5-2, which put them in the position to play for 3rd against rival Wasco.     Spring sports are officially underway at Shafter High school. The sports include boys golf, boys tennis, swimming, softball, baseball and track. The boys tennis team has a bunch of talent ,and they also have a new coach in charge. A Shafter High grad, Teddy Bloemhof was brought in to help the program get back on track.     The Kiwanis Club of Shafter recently hosted representatives from the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership program at Shafter High School. Beatriz Ricketts, the SHS sophomore counselor, and students Mia Ortiz and Alejandro Andrade presented and explained the HOBY program.     The Shafter varsity basketball team took on Kennedy on Feb. 4 in a very intense game that the Generals ended up losing, 77-72. The next day they played rival Wasco in a win-or-go- home game, since the Generals had to have a .500 record to make the playoffs. The Generals came to play and beat the Tigers 61-41.     The Shafter boys varsity basketball team took on Taft Tuesday, Jan. 22, and ran away in the 4th period to give them the 53-44 victory. Then, on Thursday they played a hard- fought game but came up short against McFarland, losing 54-51. This moves the Generals league record to 3-6 and an overall record of 12-13.
