There were over 1,100 new covid-19 cases in Kern County this week, Kern County Public Health’s Michelle Corson reported. This brings the total confirmed cases to date to 175,585 in the county. While continuing to deal with the restrictions covid-19 placed on everyone, July began with a bang as the annual fireworks show was held at the ball park. The Orange Heart Foundation and the Recreation and Parks District coordinated efforts together to provide the city with fireworks lighting up the sky. Miguel Albarran Vera, 71, of Wasco, passed away on Jan. 6, 2022. Miguel, who was known by family members as Mike, was born on Jan. 26 , 1950 to Eliborio and Juana Vera in Rio Grande Texas. After Mike graduated from Wasco High school in 1968, he went on to join the family in the field of agriculture work. Erma Neufeld Funk went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Dec. 13, 2021. Erma was born on Sept. 14, 1924 in Shafter, to Nicolai and Justina Neufeld. She attended Maple School and Wasco High School, graduating in 1942. She married Wesley Paul Funk in 1943.
