For the two open seats on the Shafter City Council, Mayor Cathy Prout still holds a sizeable lead, accumulating 775 votes, outdistancing her opponents with 35% of the vote. Minter Field Air Museum held their annual Wings n Wheels event on Saturday, drawing thousands to the airport, getting a look at an array of aircraft, car, trucks, and military vehicles on the site. The Wasco Elk Ladies hosted a special fundraiser for the Bakersfield Ronald McDonald House. The money raised will support local families with sick children, providing them shelter while seeking treatment. The 'Tab Night' was in memory of Eddie Johnson, who was a loyal member of the Elks. The Richland Junior High Girls' 8th Grade Volleyball team finished an undefeated season recently as they went 18-0 for the season. The Community Circle Church held their annual slo-pitch softball tournament on Saturday with over a dozen teams vying for the championship. Patrick came in as a stray. He is friendly, gentle and playful. He is approximately a 7-month-old Shepard mix and is great with staff and other dogs. Mary Jean Leslie was born on March 9, 1931, to Bertha and Bernard Heitkotter. Her sister Bernadine shared her birth date two years later, and they enjoyed celebrating their mutual birthday together over the next 85 years.
