The Shafter City Council approved a resolution that allows the city to receive almost $700,000 in emergency funds for the Covid-19 pandemic. The council also extended its state of local emergency, which enables City Manager Gabriel Gonzales to act if an emergency calls for it. The Shafter City Council got a sneak peek at the 2020-21 budget at a special meeting Monday night. Shelby Ramos was crowned as the winner of the 2021 Distinguished Young Woman of Shafter in a program that was done primarily online. After a hiatus due to the coronavirus, the Shafter Woman's Club met on June 10 to install new officers. President Angie Nelson's theme, "Fostering Kindness," will guide the club for two years.
