    With the majority of California schools and resource centers dealing with challenging budget cuts and uncertainty, the Shafter Healthy Start program received a much-needed boost from First 5 Kern, with a financial award of $800,000 to continue to serve the Shafter community from 2020 to 2025.     PFC Daniel Rodriguez, 19, passed away on Dec. 15, 2019, in Texhoma, Texas. On his way home for the holidays. Rodriguez was born on Oct. 23, 2000, in Bakersfield to Ivonne and Dagoberto Rodriguez. Rodriguez grew up in Shafter. He graduated from Shafter High School in 2018. After high school, Rodriguez joined the U.S. Army.     The Shafter Depot Museum held their annual Christmas celebration this past Saturday with refreshments, music, Christmas trees and fun. The Shafter Brass Band performed for the crowd, playing a variety of holiday favorites. Among the band was former Judge Gary Ingle, who is celebrating his 40th year playing Christmas music for the community of Shafter.
