In May 9’s Press, a caption misidentified the action and the athlete involved in a play during the Shafter-Wasco baseball game. Wasco’s second baseman, Gerardo Aldana, made the tag to get an out during the game. Aldana is the only freshman on the Wasco varsity team. The Press regrets the error....
Last week’s Press reported that the city was purchasing new Flock cameras for tracking vehicles at a cost of $90,000 each. The actual cost is $90,000 for all 25 cameras, not per camera, with an annual maintenance fee of $70,000 annually, according to Mayor Chad Givens. The Press regrets the error....
There were editing errors in last week’s paper: In the article "Barker Park the place to be on Saturday," the man being honored with a bench is named Gilbert Garland, not Garner. In the article "Couple set for trial in child abuse/torture," the correct scheduled date was Sept..6. In the article "Rotary Festival features big-money raffle," the caption referred to the amount each raffle winner took home. The correct amount was $1,000 each....
A story in the June 20 edition of The Press incorrected noted the dates theaters were opened in Shafter. The Shafter Air Dome operated the summer of 1936, Shafter Theatre opened May 1937, State Theatre opened November 1944, Del-Kern Drive opened September 1950. All Theatres were closed by 1967. The location of the Shafter Air Dome was in an empty lot to the northwest of the Bank of America and facing James Street. The Bank of America building was already standing, being built around 1921....
