The Shafter High Lady Generals softball team advanced to the Central Section Division V Championship game with a 5-4 win against Bakersfield Christian on Tuesday afternoon. The Shafter High Generals football team ended their abbreviated season with one of the only three undefeated records in the county, going 5-0. Their final game was on Friday night, winning against one of the other four undefeated teams, the Golden Valley Bulldogs, 41-14. Sean Jackson joined the Reserve team this year and is an outfielder and pitcher. Jackson was born and grew up in Vallejo and Rodeo in the East Bay of the San Francisco Bay Area. The Shafter High Generals proved on Friday night that they are able to step up and win even when they are not at the top of their game. Against the Lions of Mira Monte, the Generals' offense started off slowly, misfiring more than their three previous games. Shafter found a way to step up their game and win with a score of 43-6. Wasco suffered a tough loss last week against Division 1 opponent Tulare Union, 53-7. The touchdown was scored on run by Jacob Ruiz in the 2nd quarter. Wasco’s team consists of young talent that will be in the program for years. All of the spring sports in Kern County High Schools have been suspended at least until April 14. The California Interscholastic Federation says that there is still a possibility of the sports programs saving the remainder of their seasons if it is deemed safe to do so according to the federal Centers for Disease Control and the Kern County Public Health Department. The Shafter High Lady Generals softball team opened their season with a tournament championship on their own turf, defeating the Chavez Titans in the Shafter Slugfest's title game, 8-3.
