This past week the Generals baseball team played in the Wasco Tournament. The Generals went 2-1 in a tournament with very good competition. They lost the first game by a very close contest by a score of 2-1. Then they picked it up the second game by beating Mcfarland, 5-2, which put them in the position to play for 3rd against rival Wasco.
The Generals dominated the game and scored 5 runs in the 3rd inning to take the win against the Tigers 8-4. Joel Herrera pitched all 7 innings and dominated on the mound for the Generals with 8 K’s.
The Lady General softball team played two games in the Centennial tournament this past weekend. The General’s played Division 1 Centennial first, and they had the lead for most of the game, but they ended up losing, 4-3. Then the Generals took on Ridgeview and lost, 6-0. The Lady Generals are playing many bigger division schools and competing well. Their tough out-of- league schedule should allow them to dominate their league this year.
The Shafter track team had the Kern Invitational last Friday, which could be a preview of the area meet to come at the end of the season. The big standouts for the Generals were throwers Nick Godbehere, a freshman following in the footsteps of standout senior Tom Richardson. Julia Pitter jumped a 37 feet, 10 inches, breaking the school record by a foot and a half, and giving her the second best jump in the Central Section this year. The Generals took 4th as a team overall.
