Spring sports in full swing – and on the run

The Lady Generals softball team took on Arvin March 11, and they dominated the game, winning 23-3. Then, on March 13, the Generals took on McFarland, and they run ruled the Cougars by the 5th inning, winning by a final of 28-0. Nat Espinoza had a dominating performance versus the Cougars, with 15 strikeouts. The Generals' record is now 3-0 in league play, which puts them in a tie for first with Cesar Chavez.

The Shafter High baseball team took on the Arvin Bears last week, and they lost a tough one.

Most of the March 11 loss was on the Generals, as the team just made errors they usually don't make.

But the locals did bounce back in their next game against McFarland, 4-2. Alan Feria had a good game for the Generals getting a couple RBI and playing great defense. The Generals are now in 4th place in the South Sequoia League with a 1-1 record.

The track and field team had their first SSL power meet, which counts 20 percent towards the league championship. The Generals varsity boys and girls all dominated, crushing the other teams. The Generals seemed like they had a standout athlete in every event on the track.

Their next power meet will be on March 27 at Cesar Chavez.
