Serving the community since 1922
The city of Shafter will be giving residents a good reason to do some spring cleaning by holding a Spring Clean Up Saturday, April 27 at the Shafter Aquatic Center.
Residents can drop off any unwanted bulky items for free.
This event is not only a bulky waste disposal event, but also a full spring cleaning for the city. Citizens, groups, clubs are welcome to join in to clean the city. Volunteers are welcome to join in the event, and groups and areas will be assigned. Each individual will receive bags and gloves to help pick up litter, trash and debris.
The Aquatic Center is located at 269 Poso Avenue, and items will be collected from 9 a.m. to noon. Acceptable items include refrigerators, mattresses, stoves, couches, washers and dryers, water heaters, tables and chairs, and other furniture and appliances. They also will be accepting electronic waste items, such as old televisions, flat screens, computers, monitors, laptops and cell phones.
Hazardous materials, construction or demo waste, light bulbs, florescent tubes, tires and batteries will not be accepted.
The event is being sponsored by the City of Shafter, along with American Refuse, Kern County Public Works and PC Recycle.
For information regarding volunteering, email shaftercc@gmail.com. Pre-registration and signed waivers are required to participate in the cleanup.
