NEW: Coffee With a Cop -- Saturday, May 18, 7-9 a.m. at Veterans Park 701 S. Schnaidt St. Join neighbors and Shafter Police officers for coffee and conversation. No agenda and no speeches. Just coffee and a chance to ask questions, voice concern and get to know the officers in the community.
NEW: Racing -- Buttonwillow Raceway Park plays host this weekend, April 26-28, to an annual visit from the Hoosier Racing Tire SCCA Super Tour, the country’s premier amateur road racing series. Entry is FREE for spectators. On-track activities begin 8 a.m. Friday, Saturday and
Sunday. Races run Saturday from noon to 5 p.m., and Sunday 8:40 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.
Auction dinner -- Shafter Commanders Auction Dinner fundraiser Saturday, April 27, at the Shafter’s Veterans Hall, 6 p.m. Lots of sports
memorabilia, unique gift baskets and items to bid on, both live and silent. Full steak dinner and dessert for $25 a plate. All funds raised go directly to the program for newer safer equipment and to keep our athletes’ cosst down.

Community Cleanup -- On April 27, 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m., there will be a Community Cleanup hosted by the City of Shafter. The meeting point is Richland Pool. Roll-off bins will be staged at the park to accept bulky items. Volunteers will canvas the surrounding neighborhood picking up litter. Public Works will be providing free gloves and waive the landfill disposal fee.
SAT practice -- Study sessions on Tuesdays at the Shafter High School Tutoring Center. For Shafter High School students 3-7 p.m. at the Shafter High School Tutoring Center (Shafter High School Library). A great SAT can open doors and win scholarships, and studying for the SAT exam can help high school students get there.
