NEW: Pet clinic -- Shafter Animal Control’s Annual Vaccination/License Clinic will be Saturday, May 18 , 9 a.m. to noon at Mannel Park, Shafter. All dogs must be on a leash. Cats must be in carriers. Aggressive dogs must be muzzled and under adult supervision at all times.

NEW: Stamp Out Hunger — Letter carriers helping to stamp out hunger. All you have to do is leave a nonperishable food donation in a bag by your mailbox on Saturday, May 11, and your letter carrier will do the rest. All donations are donated to local food banks and pantries.

Veterans memorial dedication – Saturday, May 18, 10 a.m. at Veterans Park, 500 W. Los Angeles Ave. Heroes will be honored.

Coffee With a Cop -- Saturday, May 18, 7-9 a.m. at Veterans Park 701 S. Schnaidt St. Join neighbors and Shafter Police officers for coffee and conversation. No agenda and no speeches. Just coffee and a chance to ask questions, voice concern and get to know the officers in the community.

Job fair -- Job Fest at Shafter Veterans Hall, 309 California Ave., Thursday, May 9 at 9 a.m. Free admission, on-the-spot interviews. Bring 50 copies of your resume and dress to impress.

SAT practice -- Study sessions on Tuesdays at the Shafter High School Tutoring Center. For Shafter High School students 3-7 p.m. at the Shafter High School Tutoring Center (Shafter High School Library). A great SAT can open doors and win scholarships, and studying for the SAT exam can help high school students get there. Richland school board -- Richland School District board meets on the third Monday at Golden Oak cafeteria at 6:30 p.m.

Prop 36 -- Spiritual meetings for Prop 36 or others in recovery from addictions at Free Will Baptist Church, 155 Redwood, at 7 p.m. or Home Fellowship Church, 520 California Ave., at 7 p.m.

Rotary -- Shafter Rotary Club meets at 6:30 a.m. at the Shafter Veteran’s Hall for breakfast.

Sack Day 55+ -- Every first and third Thursday at 10 a.m., W.C. Walker Center.

Turning Point – Jesus Saves Church offers a nine-week program that is Bible-based and will teach you the biblical principles to become free of a life-controlling problem. The classes are held every Thursday from 6:30-8 p.m. at 425 South Shafter Ave.

Hiking group --Shafter Christian Fellowship Church, 632 James St., hosts a hiking group every second Saturday.

Men’s Fellowship -- High Vision Ministries welcomes all men for fellowship the third Saturday. Information, call Paul at 661-910-2317 or Art at 661-863-8565.

Drug and alcohol alternative program -- Seventh Day Adventist Church, Poplar and West Lerdo Hwy., 7-8 p.m. This program is nondenominational and encourages each participant to depend on the strength God provides to deal with issues related to addiction.
