Locals to be honored at Chamber awards

The Shafter Chamber of Commerce will be holding their annual Awards Banquet and State of the City Address on Thursday night, Jan. 23, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at Shafter's Ford Theater.

The evening will begin with a social and h'ors deuvres hour, followed by a dinner at 6:30 p.m., with the awards presentation to follow.

Honorees this year include The Cinco de Mayo Festival, which won the Arts Group Award, Basham & Lara Funeral Care, for the Commercial Remodel Award, and Rosa Romero, for the Education Award.

There also will be a presentation of the State of the City Address, which will be delivered by Shafter's Mayor, Gilbert Alvarado. Alvarado will detail the achievements of the city in the past year, as well as future endeavors that the city will be involved in this year.

This is the second year the event will be held at the Ford Theater, after a long run at the Shafter Veterans Hall. The venue was perfect for the event, according to many who attended the event last year. "The theater was a big hit with the attendees. It is such a beautiful space and the sound was great," commented the Shafter Chambers' Rachel Zermino.

Tickets for the event are $40 per ticket or a table of eight for $370. Ticket information is available by calling City Hall at 661-746-5001.
