City opens government offices
The City of Shafter has reopened government buildings, including City Hall, with safety restrictions in place.
At a recent City Council meeting, City Manager Gabriel Gonzales said, “We are opening our city buildings to the public on Monday. But, we will be observing safety guidelines to protect our staff, as well as the residents.”
Upon arriving at City Hall, visitors are met with a couple of canopies that are in use in case of lines outside of the building. There is a limit of two people that are allowed in the public areas of the buildings at one time; a posting reminds those coming inside that a facemask is required. Social distancing is in force, too.
Making an appointment may be required. “It depends on what department you are going to.” The assistant to the city manager, Rachel Zermeno, said.
For example, if you have business with the city manager or city clerk, you are required to make an appointment by calling 661-746-5000 or by emailing Zermeno at [email protected] or City Clerk Yazmina Pallares at [email protected].
If you are visiting the human resources office, it is by appointment only also. You need to email [email protected], or call 661-746-5003.
For the finance office, which includes questions regarding utility payments, business licenses, and new service, the office is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and is open during lunch. You can call 661-746-5001 with any questions, although residents are encouraged to make their utility payments online.
If you need to go to the city services office, with questions regarding building permits, parks and Veterans Hall rentals, and planning and code enforcement, the office is open to the public from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and are open during lunch. Their phone number is 661-746-5002.
The business development office and Business Developer Bob Meadows is open by appointment only. For questions, call 661-746-5000.
