Willie Abernathy

Willie Eugene Abernathy went to be with the Lord on Aug. 29, 2020. Willie was born March 29, 1936, in White, Georgia, to “Son” Marvin Edward Abernathy and “Lee” Sally Leah Abernathy. He lived a very rewarding 84 years, and he did it his way.

He is survived by his four children, Mitchell, Michael, Tracy and Amanda; 16 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; and five great great grandchildren. He was preceeded in death by his parents, his loving wife Mary Lou, his daughter Sherry and son Mark.

Willie moved to Shafter in 1954, met Mary Lou and married her shortly after. He then began working on a farm and found out real fast that he did not like that type of work. He then found his passion in recycling metal, which he really loved doing. He continued scrapping for the next 60 years.

The family will be having a viewing at Basham & Lara Funeral Care in Shafter on Sunday, Sept. 6 from 5 to 7 p.m. The funeral service at the Shafter Cemetery will be Wednesday, Sept. 9, at 10 a.m.
