It is with great sadness that the family of Francisco "Kiko" Verdugo announce his passing after a tough battle. He entered the floodgates of Heaven on Sunday, Aug. 30, 2020, at the age of 33.
Kiko will be lovingly remembered by his parents, Rosa Acosta and Simon Verdugo, and siblings Lore, Reyna, Julio, Francisca, Leobardo, Simon and Nelly. Kiko will be fondly remembered by his numerous nieces and nephews, and the souls he touched throughout his life, including his best friend, his puppy Piggy.
Kiko reunited at the pearly gates and golden streets with his brother Leonardo (Chano) and other family members.
He was full of life, had a contagious laugh, and lived for music and his family. You never knew what Kiko you would get -- the sweetest or the craziest. Many have shared laughs with his character, and he was a special soul, leaving a lasting impression on not only family but many others from different towns when he would be with his Mom. His legacy will live on, and he will always be our family's baby.
A true soldier until his last breath -- whether it was him faking a seizure to scare his sister while in the hospital, blowing kisses, sticking his tongue out or, more importantly, giving a thumbs-up no matter how bad things were. He fought the good fight and won the race. He reached his final destination and soared high with his wings -- he'll always be a warrior.
"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." --2 Timothy 4:7
A Celebration of Life in memory of Kiko will be held on Thursday, Sept. 10, from 6 to 10 p.m. at Basham & Lara Funeral Care, 343 State Ave., with Pastor Johnny Martinez presiding. A graveside service will follow on Friday, Sept. 11, at 10 a.m. at Shafter Cemetery.
