Serving the community since 1922
March 26, 1938 – Oct. 2, 2020
March Anglin Sutton, age 82, went to join the Lord on Oct. 2, 2020, after a brave, lengthy battle with Alzheimer's. She was a hospice resident at Dean's Care Villa in Bakersfield at the time of her peaceful passing, with loving family at her side.
March was born to James Aldon and Josephine Morehouse White on March 26, 1938, in Oklahoma City, Okla. She is survived by her husband, Dean D. Sutton of Shafter; her brothers, James Aldon White II (Punky) of Pklahoma, and Paul M. Booton, Jr. (Trish) of Florida; and family mentioned below. March was preceded in death by her grandparents/adoptive parents, Charles Lee and Iva Jane Anglin; her parents and stepfather, Paul M. Booton, Sr.; and youngest daughter Cherlyn Raye Glann.
March thrived growing up in Arizona, Missouri and Oklahoma. While living in Oklahoma, March made occasional trips to visit Kansas relatives. During one such visit to Bennington, March laid eyes on Dean Sutton. Love soon ensued, and the two were married April 23, 1955.
The couple shared over 65 years of marriage and three lovely daughters: Deborah Lee Allen (Kenneth), Valerie Dean Ragsdale (Dave), and Cherlyn Raye Glann. Additionally, March and Dean were blessed with five grandchildren: Brandy Vencel (Josiah), Casey Sharifi (Noah), Nicholas Glann, Brian Brown (Ginie), and Ashton Espinoza, as well as three step-grandchildren: Michael Ragsdale (Valarie), Michele Dragoun (Scott) and Heather Machado (David). Completing the family for this fortunate couple are 20 great-grandchildren.
March dearly loved her family. "Grandmother" spent precious hours sitting with the grandkids-- playing games, reading and watching movies. As the children grew older, they would often seek Grandmother's wise counsel to help them with any struggles. Her listening ear and unbridled acceptance always left them feeling much better -- along with a cup of hot tea with milk and sugar and her famous grilled cheese sandwich!!
An avid reader, March cherished her collection of classic and American history novels. She had a great love of jazz, classical and gospel music. A favorite pastime was watching classic movies, which she was always ready to play or share with family members. Gazing upon God's world was a special treat for March. She loved marveling over the scenery while traveling to visit family or journeying to favorite places like Flagstaff, Lake Tahoe or Morro Bay.
March was unique. Her selfless, strong and witty spirit will be missed so much by her family and friends. We rest in the comfort of knowing she is enjoying eternal life in Heaven with Jesus, her Savior.
The family sincerely thanks Dr. Jorge Del Toro for his many years of medical care and Dean's Care Villa and Hoffman Hospice for the compassionate care provided to March during her final months.
A graveside service is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 12 at 10:30 a.m. at Shafter Memorial Park under the direction of Peters Funeral Home, Shafter.
