Governor threatening curfew

The number of covid-19 cases continues to rise in Wasco and Shafter, much like those of the state.

Gov. Gavin Newsom said that the numbers have surged to their highest level since the pandemic began in the spring.

Prior to the Thanksgiving weekend holiday, Newsom said that he was considering leveling a curfew on California residents due to the pandemic. As of Monday, Nov. 30, no curfew has been instilled.

Also on Monday, Newsom mentioned that he might issue stay-at-home orders once again because hospitalizations have increased by 89%.

“About 12% of Californians testing positive are likely to need hospital care within the next two to three weeks,” Newsom said.

Newsom added that the intensive care cases increased by 67% in the past two weeks.

Wasco’s positive covid-19 numbers have increased from 1,891 on Nov. 24 to 2,034 on Dec. 1. Shafter’s numbers have also increased from 1,567 on Nov. 24 to 1,677 cases.

Wasco’s number of recovered cases went from 676 on Nov. 24 to 687 by Dec. 1 and presumed recovered in Wasco for the same dates went from 527 to 548 while Shafter’s numbers for the same period went from 676 recovered to 751 and supposedly recovered from 527 to 471 from Nov. 24 to Dec. 1.

On Tuesday, Dec. 1, U.S. News reported that the virus has been in the United States since mid-December 2019.
