Holiday spirit — Wasco Parks and Recreation will be encouraging homes and businesses to decorate and #lightupWasco. They can sign up at the Rec. to be a part of the route. The community will vote for the best decorated homes and businesses.

Warm clothing drive — District 4 Supervisor David Couch is collecting blankets, coats, gloves, hats, scarves and socks. Donations will benefit families in District 4. To schedule an in-person pickup, call 661- 868-3680.

Utility bills — The City of Wasco reminds residents that the city’s official website is the only authorized avenue to pay utility bill online.

Covid-19 testing — There will be free covid-19 testing at the Wasco Library, 1102 7th St., Wasco. If you have insurance, they will be billed. Reopened — Shafter City Hall has reopened to the public from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Hours for the finance department are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call 661-746-5000.

Food2Door — The program delivers 70 pounds of food once a month to seniors 65 and older, sponsored by the City of Shafter CAPK and Kern County. Call 661- 498-7831 ext. 1310 to find out if you’re eligible for the program.

Senior lunch program — The senior sack program gives out lunches to seniors every first and third Tuesday of the month at 11 a.m., sponsored by the Golden Gleaners. Griffith Avenue Baptist Church, 408 Griffith St., Wasco.

Thursday

Wasco Recreation & Park Board — Meetings are on every 3rd Thursday of the month at 6 p.m. at the Hall at Barker Park, Wasco.

Friday

Food giveaway — The Impact Program is a weekly food giveaway provided to anyone in need, Fridays beginning at 7 a.m., first come, first serve. Griffith Avenue Baptist Church, 408 Griffith St., Wasco.

Saturday

Museum — The Shafter Depot Museum will host their Christmas Tree Display every Saturday until the first Saturday of January from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m at 150 Central Valley Highway.

Virus testing — The City of Shafter and Kern County Latino Covid-19 Force are teaming up to host a free walk-up covid-19 testing site Saturday, Dec. 19 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. No charge, no appointments, everyone and all ages welcome. Located at Rodriguez Park, 215 Rodriguez Ave., Shafter.

Christmas on the Green — Shafter Mennonite Brethren Church is hosting Christmas on the Green Sunday, Dec. 20 from 5 to 6 p.m. The event will be at the corner of Kern and California and include Christmas carols, a children’s feature, hot chocolate, hot cider and goodie bags for each family.
