Kiwanis recognize some Terrific Kids

The Shafter Kiwanis Club held their monthly Terrific Kids luncheon last week as they recognized students in the Richland School District as part of their Terrific Kids program.

Terrific Kids is a program that recognizes outstanding students that demonstrate characteristics that displays the values of the program. The program promotes character development, self-esteem and perseverance. "Terrific" is an acronym for thoughtful, enthusiastic, respectful, responsible, inclusive, friendly, inquisitive and capable.

Students work with their classroom teachers to establish goals to improve behavior, peer relationships, attendance and school work. Students benefit from this program by building character, develop leadership skills, and attain important life skills known as developmental assets that help them make smart choices.

This month, Richland Junior High, represented by Principal Monica Garza, presented their award to Shane Heller. Heller epitomizes the trait for this month, enthusiastic.

"Shane is very enthusiastic and is a joy to have at this school," said Garza.

Sequoia Elementary School honored Baiya Hanner and Henry Richardson this month, accompanied by Principal Janean Johnson.

Redwood Elementary School Assistant Principal Antonio Juarez recognized Heaven Heredia and Jayden Aguilar for their enthusiastic traits. Both students are very enthusiastic and are a source of pride for the school.

Each student is nominated by their teachers and administration, recognized for their individual traits that the program is looking for that month. The students are awarded, in addition to the luncheon held in their honor, a pencil, bumper sticker, certificate and t-shirt.
