Blood bank — The Houchin Community Blood Bank bus will be at the Wasco Knights of Columbus, 929 Broadway St., on Feb. 18 from 2 to 6 p.m. To make an appointment, visit HCBB.com/schedule.

Wasco Elks Golf Tournament — The 2022 Wasco Elks Golf Tournament is on April 23. Registration starts at 7 a.m. and it is four-man teams. The tournament will be at the North Kern Golf Course, 17412 Quality Road, Bakersfield. Call Sergio at 661-747-9044 or email him at skiny24@gmail.com

Wasco Branch Library is in partnership with NO Kid Hungry and the Kern County Superintendent of Schools is offering FREE meals and space to do homework.

Shafter High Drama — SHS Drama presents “The Radium Girls” written by D.W. Gregory. Shows will be Feb. 3, 4 and 5 at 7 p.m. in the SHS Auditorium. Student and staff tickets are $5 and general admission is $7. For more information, call 549-0839.

Free covid-19 tests — All residential households are able to order four free at-home covid-19 tests. These tests will ship for free starting in late January. Visit http://www.covidtests.gov to order.

Scholarship deadline — The Wasco Community Scholarship Association application deadline is March 7. Students need to obtain their transcripts and recommendation letters and turn in the documents no later than 5 p.m. on March 7. The association is a nonprofit and the money goes directly to scholarships.

Tuesday

Wasco City Council — The council meetings are held at Council Chambers at 746 8th St. on the first and third Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. For more questions, call the city at 661-758-7214.

Shafter City Council — Council meetings are held at Shafter Council on the first and third Tuesday of each month.

Richland School Board of Education — The next meeting will be Feb. 15 at the Golden Oak cafeteria at 6 p.m.

Kern High School District — The next board meeting will be Feb. 7 at 6 p.m. at 5801 Sundale Ave., Bakersfield.

Wasco Woman’s Club — Club meetings are at the Clubhouse at 1601 7th St. on the second Tuesday of each month. There is a $15 fee for lunch meetings.

Senior lunch program — The senior sack program gives out lunches to seniors every first and third Tuesday of the month at 11 a.m., sponsored by the Golden Gleaners. Griffith Avenue Baptist Church, 408 Griffith St., Wasco.

Wednesday

Shafter Rotary — The Shafter Rotary meeting is every Wednesday at a.m. at the Shafter Veteran’s Hall.

Shafter Kiwanis — The Shafter Kiwanis meet every Wednesday at noon at the Shafter Veteran’s Hall.

Thursday

Wasco Recreation & Park Board — Meetings are on every 3rd Thursday of the month at 6 p.m. at the Hall at Barker Park, Wasco.

Wasco High School Board Meeting — The board will be meeting at 1900 7th St. in room 202. The meetings are on the second Thursday of every month and are sometimes held in the library room 1101. The agenda is on the WHS website.

Friday

Food giveaway — The Impact Program is a weekly food giveaway provided to anyone in need, Fridays beginning at 7 a.m., first come, first serve. Griffith Avenue Baptist Church, 408 Griffith St., Wasco.

Saturday

Depot Museum — The Shafter Depot Museum will be open every Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The museum is located at 150 Central Valley Highway.
