Serving the community since 1922
The city and GAF will be celebrating the Shafter Learning Center's new expanded area March 16.
The ribbon cutting will be held at 4:30 p.m. at the center and everyone is welcome. After the ribbon cutting, attendees will be able to tour the new facilities.
The new expansion includes new classrooms, outdoor areas with shade, as well as activity areas which can be used for different projects.
Several city dignitaries will be on hand for the ribbon cutting, as well as representatives from GAF Roofing. Those slated to attend are City Council members, David Franz, Education Partnership Director for the City of Shafter, Andy Hilton, CCO at GAF, and Nigel Abraham, the Plant Manager of GAF Shafter.
This project began over two years ago with a public workshop in which residents were invited to attend and give their input and opinions on what should be included in the new project.
GAF and the city worked with educational specialists and community residents to determine the best use of the space.
The result is a new learning area that includes additional classrooms, meeting spaces, a new children's library where families can relax and read together, as well as new pavement that expand the usable outdoor space.
The expansion project is part of GAF's social impact initiative, GAF Community Matters, which is focused on making a positive difference as neighbors and partners in the community by leveraging roofing expertise, resources and products to help build resilient communities.
