The Shafter Kiwanis Club held their monthly Terrific Kids luncheon, recognizing students who best exemplify traits that describe Terrific Kids in the program specifics.
The program promotes character development, self-esteem and perseverance. "Terrific" is an acronym for Thoughtful, Enthusiastic, Respectful, Responsible, Inclusive, Friendly, Inquisitive and Capable.
Students work with their classroom teachers to establish goals to improve behavior, peer relationships, attendance and school work. Students benefit from the program by building character, develop leadership skills, and attain important life skills known as developmental assets that help them make smart choices.
This month, the trait was Inquisitiveness. Students who best portray this trait were nominated by their teachers and staff, giving them the title of Terrific Kid. Each student honored receives a T-shirt, pencil, certificate, bumper sticker and a lunch with the members of the Kiwanis Club.
