WUHS class of 2022 shines

It was a special day for 336 students at the Wasco Union High School graduation ceremony. The event was filled with pride, emotion and lots of happy faces for the accomplishments of the graduates.

"Today, we celebrate the Class of 2022, who faced obstacles but endured the challenges," said WUHS Principal Sunni Dobbs.

In the face of covid, the students' lives were disrupted by online learning.

"With the pandemic, we experienced stumbling blocks, but we pulled through it," said Jimena Acosta.

"I didn't think I would make it, but I applied myself. Now I am going to Bakersfield College to major in animal science to be an ag teacher."

Leadership commented on returning to some normalcy.

"The ceremony captured the great spirit that everyone had together in a normal ceremony after three years," said WUHS District Superintendent Robert Cobb.

It was a team effort.

"The entire staff worked tirelessly for the students to be prepared for tonight," said Cobb.

Parents played a big role in the success of their children.

"I want to especially thank my mom for helping me realize this dream and for giving me the motivation to finish," said Angel Garcia.

Family was proud of and excited for the students.

"Seeing her grow and become a beautiful person makes me proud," said Cynthia Escalera. "I am excited for her because she is starting a new chapter in her life."

"She is going to college and following in my footsteps. I have big hopes for her," said Jesus Ibarra.

"It is exciting to see him move on with his life. He's been a good student and kid. This was a milestone for him," said Kelly Duncan.

"I am proud of her because she is graduating and going to college. She worked hard these last four years, and it's exciting to see her move on to new adventures," said Breya Navarro.

The night was one to be remembered, and emotions ran deep.

"I feel really excited but nervous. It was memorable because I was here with the people I love the most," said Ivy Mariscal.

"I am happy that we finally did it, but sad I won't be seeing my friends," said Garcia.

"It was an awesome experience. The best part was when I moved my tassel to the left," said Yvette Campos.

"There is a surge of emotions right now because I get to celebrate my academic progress," said Vianey Padilla.

"It feels very unreal and emotional for my friends and the whole graduating class," said Melissa Maldonado. "I can't wait to see what we all will do in the future."

Students gave credit to their teachers.

"I look forward to what will come next, and my teachers have prepared me for it," said Dalet Reyes.

"I am grateful for my teachers for believing in me," said Elijah Guitron.

The students were left with encouraging words of school spirit.

"Once a Tiger, always a Tiger," said Cobb.
