Generals celebrate Homecoming with a week of activities

Shafter High School had its annual Homecoming Week last week, with days filled with fun activities and big doses of Blue and Gold spirit.

This year's theme was Disney, and each day was a different challenge for students.

On Monday, the week started out with Marvel Monday, where the students were encouraged to dress up like their favorite superhero. Tuesday was Teen Beach Tuesday, with everyone wearing their best beach gear.

Western Wednesday was a chance for the students to wear their favorite western wear, or dress up like an alien. Theme Park Thursday encouraged all of the students to dress up in attire that they would wear when going to Disneyland.

Of course, Friday is always Blue and Gold Friday, with all of the students and staff dressed in their school colors.

Homecoming Week culminated with a rally in the gymnasium, with a lot of cheers, music, and games.

The celebration led up to Friday night, with the Generals going up against the Taft Wildcats. During halftime of the game, the Homecoming Queen and King were crowned. Serenity Angulo was named Homecoming Queen for 2022. Angulo is also a highly touted member of the Shafter High Lady Generals' softball team, where she is a standout pitcher for the squad.

Also at halftime, each class presented a skit at midfield with a Disney theme. The freshmen chose to do a depiction of the Mickey Mouse clubhouse, with a lot of dancing. The sophomores did a play off of "Star Wars," including light saber fights and effects. The juniors did a skit on the Incredibles, with a ton of dancing and sweet moves.

The seniors won the competition, with their presentation of the Marvel Comics shows. Brightly colored clothes, dancing and music sealed the win for the Class of 2023.

A group of students at Shafter High work for weeks before Homecoming Week to make sure that the week is enjoyed by all. The Shafter Associated Student Body is made up of students who work behind the scenes, spending long hours brainstorming, painting, building and getting the students fired up for the rally, as well as having their hands full with their normal class work as well as their extra curricular activities in the weeks leading up to Homecoming Week.

"These kids do a lot of work and are so great at what they do. We really appreciate them," said Activities Director Brian Feaster.

Unfortunately, the Generals dropped a heartbreaker to Taft on the field, but the Shafter High Generals' family still celebrated the week with pride.
