Nov. 29, 1934 –Sept. 22, 2022
A Celebration of Life service will be held at The Bridge Bible Church at 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 1, 2022, for Evelyn LaVerne Hiebert, 87, of Shafter, who passed away Sept. 22, 2022, in Shafter.
Mrs. Hiebert was born on Nov. 29, 1934, in Headrick, Okla., to Mack and Lottie Cummings. She lived in Oklahoma until the first grade and then moved to Shafter. She attended Shafter elementary schools and graduated from Shafter High School in 1952. On Aug. 15, 1958, she was married at the Shafter Mennonite Brethren Church to Marland Hiebert. She was a member of The Bridge Bible Church.
Mrs. Hiebert owned and worked at Shafter Automotive Service from 1966 until her retirement in 2018, 52 years. She will always be remembered for driving countless customers home while their vehicles were being repaired. The short driving trips often turned into special conversations and allowed everyone to get caught up on local events. People were known to stop by just to visit with her and pick up one of the cookies she regularly made or to grab a morning donut. She easily cared for and made everyone who came in feel special.
Her surviving family includes her son, Ryan Hiebert, and his wife, Patricia, of Shafter; her daughter, Tracy Bell, and her husband, Dennis, of Shafter; her grandchildren, Matthew Peters and wife Jenna, Allie Peters, Michael Hiebert and wife Nicole, Daniel Hiebert and Steven Hiebert. And a special great-granddaughter that was born this year, Brielle Hiebert. Sister-in-law Jane Cummings, sister-in-law Marilyn Jost and brother-in-law Karl Jost also survive he. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marland, and her six siblings.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hoffmann Hospice.
