GROW Academy wins at Wasco Rose Festival

GROW Academy of Shafter participated in the Wasco Rose Festival with a float depicting characters from the Wizard of Oz, including the Tin Man, Scarecrow, Lion and Dorothy. The Comets won the float competition, beating out over 15 other entries.

The float took over a week to complete and was a joint effort with students, staff and parents coming together to put the float together.

In other GROW Academy action, the school's flag football teams and volleyball teams went undefeated last week, with wins over Wonderful Prep, with the junior varsity football team winning and the varsity team tying. In volleyball, both of the school's teams won in straight sets over Wonderful Prep.

They will be playing Buttonwillow next week. GROW will also be holding a Trunk or Treat event on Friday, Oct. 21, at the school's parking lot, from 6 to 8 p.m.

They also had conferences before the fall break, gathering together this week to collaborate, review their scholar's data, and set goals for the next quarter through the Academic Parent Teacher Team process.

Their teachers and staff worked hard to prepare a meaningful Academic Parent Teacher Team meeting experience for the parents this week. Principal Lacie Harris said, " APTT is a research based method for more effective parent conferences. Throughout the year, we will work as a collective CREW class as well as meet one on one to monitor student progress and set goals together. The parents' participation is a critical component to the success of our scholars."
