Serving the community since 1922
June 21, 1929 – Nov. 17, 2022
Louise Spears Patterson was born in Hervey, Ark., on June 21, 1929, to parents Hugh and Armittee Spears. Her early life was spent living on the family farm along with her 12 siblings. She had many fond memories of riding to church and town in their horse-drawn wagon.
Louise and Junior Patterson were married Dec. 7, 1946, in Hempstead, Ark. They moved their family to Shafter in 1950, where they both sought work on local farms. Over the years, they had six children.
In 1962, they purchased their own farm adjacent to the Shafter Cemetery. They raised cotton and, eventually, almonds.
Louise liked to farm and garden, and enjoyed looking at her beautiful flowers. She loved to listen to country and old-time gospel music. She was a proud member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She loved to play skip-bo and dominoes and take trips to the casinos. She loved being surrounded by her big, beautiful family.
Louise passed away on Nov. 17, 2022. Louise was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 54 years; her 12 siblings; her daughter, Nelda Patrick; her granddaughters, Carol Smith and Stacy Estrada; her grandson, Joshua Scoggins; and great-grandson, Jeffrey Guenther.
