Serving the community since 1922
Nov. 14, 1927 – Dec. 10, 2022
Marie E. Krause (Swan) was born Nov. 14, 1927, and passed away Dec. 10, 2022, after a long and full life. She was a woman of many passions, but the greatest of these was creating art. She designed and made stained glass Tiffany-style lamps, doors, windows and many stepping stones. At the United Methodist Church in Wasco, she taught stained glass-making classes, sharing her artistry with others.
Every Sunday, she also arranged the flowers for the church altar, choosing them from her own garden. She loved raising flowers and running the farm she shared with her late husband, Victor. Every year at Christmas time, she would make candles with arrangements and deliver to friends and family. She was also an avid reader and loved to learn.
Marie met Victor when her brother Dale, who had served in the Army with him, suggested he go to the power company in Delano to meet her. She was 18 and he was 27, and they were together from that point on.
When Victor passed away in 1999, Marie joined Friendship Force in Bakersfield. She quickly became a docent and started traveling the world, from Russia to Machu Picchu to all over Europe. She also enjoyed hosting guests from many countries at her home.
Baking was another of her passions. She started working at the Guild House in Bakersfield a couple of days each week and quickly became the favorite baker there, turning out all kinds of breads and desserts. Marie always challenged herself to improve, and her favorite quote was "I don't advertise my mistakes and I won't let my halo choke me!"
Marie was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Victor Krause. She will be missed by her children, Joan Johnson (Lee), Patricia Alpert (David) and Kincade Krause (Kathy), as well as her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at Wasco Cemetery on Jan. 14, 2023, at 11 a.m. The family requests that donations be made to Hoffmann Hospice, 4325 Buena Vista Road, Bakersfield 93311.
