A pool guy you can count on at Big Joe's

Big Joe's Pool Service launched earlier this year and is off to a great start.

Joseph Munoz and his wife, Allisyn, are the owners.

Before opening his own business, Munoz worked servicing pools for another company, where he learned the ropes and accomplished expertise that would eventually serve him well in his new role.

Munoz is a long-time resident who grew up in Shafter, and said he enjoys working there and in Wasco.

So far, business is good.

"It's exciting to see it start to pick up even more."

Some of his services include balancing chemicals, brushing the perimeter of the pool, equipment maintenance, netting out everything in the pool and emptying out the skimmer and pump basket.

"That would be weekly service, but I also do one-time services to get pools ready for the summer season. I do chlorine washes if needed, and filter cleans."

He does pool service throughout the year, even in the winter.

"I keep the pool blue because you don't want to leave your pool drained during the rough weather."

Munoz emphasizes dependability in his business. "You can always count on me to show up on the day of the week that is scheduled," he says.

He offers free quotes, and his prices are competitive.

"We provide a service that is top of the line. You can call and get a quote from a bigger company from a place like Bakersfield, and you'll find that their prices are higher."

He credits his early success to the support of the community.

"The nice thing about growing up in a small community is that you grow up with everybody; many people want to see you do well and put in a good word for you."

Munoz is also a youth pastor for Valley Bible Church in Shafter. He said the values and morals he learned from this benefitted him in his new business.

"I love the ministry. God has put me in front of people that have been able to help me out, so it's been a real blessing."

One of the church members, Justin Medlock, introduced him to the profession.

"He hired me to service some of his pools. I still work with him. He gave me the opportunity to learn the trade and get my business off the ground."

Munoz graduated from Fresno State in 2018 and always knew he would return home.

"It is because I grew up locally and had a heart for the community, which is why I came back after college to start my family and raise my family in this area."

He has big hopes for the future.

"I pray that God will allow me to continue to work hard, to give glory up to him as I can work with my hands and serve other people in the community."
