June 12, 1955 – March 25, 2023
Josephine “Josie” Sanchez-Andrade passed away March 25, 2023, at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles. Josie was born June 12, 1955, in Wasco, to Jose Reza Sanchez and Tomasita Medrano Sanchez.
Josie grew up in Wasco. She attended St. Johns School for elementary school and graduated 8th grade in 1969; then she went to Wasco High School and graduated in 1973. After high school, she attended Bakersfield College, where she received her AA in child development and became a preschool teacher. During her years of teaching preschool, she taught at Semitropic Schoo, the Children’s Center in Shafter and Kern County Superintendent of Schools preschools.
Josie met Frank in 1977, and they were together for 30 years before they got married in 2007 in Las Vegas. Josie enjoyed many things in life: she loved to dance, seeing old movies, going to Dodgers games and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She loved her grandkids; they were her heart and soul, and she would call them her “cuckoo heads.” In 2013, Josie received Christ into her heart, and the following year, 2014, she was baptized.
Josie is survived by her children, Vanessa and Reyes Soberon of Wasco, Merissa and Juan Orozco of Wasco, Joseph and Berniece Andrade of Wasco, and Frank Andrade Jr. and Jessica Mendez of Bakersfield; her grandchildren, Roman Orozco, Milkayla Orozco, Daniela Ramos, Sebastian Andrade, Jasmine Ramos, JoJo Andrade, Hannah Soberon, Carlos Andrade and Frank Andrade Jr.; her sisters Eva and Manuel Jimenez of Delano, Sarah Teutimez of West Los Angeles, Annie and Armando Aguilar of Bakersfield, and Kathryn Woodford of Fontana; her brothers Alfred and Barbara Sanchez of Bakersfield, Joe Valdez of Whittier, Rogaciano and Maria Hortencia Valdez of Whittier, and Bonifacio and Maria San Juana Sanchez of Wasco.
Josie was preceded in death by her spouse, Frank Andrade; parents Jose and Tomasita Sanchez; brothers Robert Valdez, Jimmy Joe Sanchez and William “Bill” Sanchez; and sisters Jessie Valdez-Alcoser and Carmen Sabala.
Visitation will be on Friday, April 14, from 4 to 8 p.m., with a Rosary at 6 p.m. at Basham & Lara Funeral Care, 343 State Ave., Shafter. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 15, at Westside Family Fellowship, 2150 Palm Ave, Wasco, at 11 a.m., followed by a Celebration of Life at the church hall.
Per Josie’s request, she does not black to be worn; she wants bright colors and for everyone to remember by her smile, love and laughter. Condolences may be left on Josephine “Josie” Sanchez Andrade’s online guestbook at bashamfuneralcare.com
