Serving the community since 1922
May 13, 1935 – April 27, 2023
Elaine Notley (Stoller), 87, passed away peacefully from complications of kidney disease. She was born in Milltown, S.D. She attended Shafter High School, where she met her husband of 67 years – John Notley Jr. They lived in San Luis Obispo while John attended Cal Poly, then moved to Shafter before settling in Terra Bella for 54 years. They moved back to San Luis Obispo in 2016.
Elaine worked as a secretary and as a substitute teacher. She retired after many years as the school secretary for Vandalia Elementary School in Porterville.
She dearly loved her family first and foremost, and stayed in close contact with all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. An annual girl's trip with family was a particular highlight she looked forward to every year, and she always made sure she brought a special little gift for everyone to enjoy.
She enjoyed being involved with her church and was very active serving in leadership roles in the women's ministry at both Zion Lutheran Church in Terra Bella and in San Luis Obispo. She was an adamant organizer and loved cooking and baking, and was known by all for her famous pies!
She was preceded in death by her husband, John, just this past September and is survived by sons Rick Notley (Sharon) and Greg Notley (Mary); daughters Diane Helbert (Dan) and Denise Doyel (Brent); nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 13, at 10 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church Terra Bella.
