History museum open for Rose Festival

The Wasco Historical Society Museum will be open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9, as part of the many Rose Festival activities.

Take time to visit this building at 918 6th St. that was not built there but moved onto the lot. Come visit and find out where it came from.

You will see pictures showing the town's beginnings at "G" Street and 7th Street What if "G" Street had become our Main Street?

There are the early years of Wasco High Annuals you can look through to find pictures of your families.

Did you know Indians traveled through here to camp at Goose Lake before going onto the coast? They left behind mortars and pestles, beads and arrowheads that you can see, thanks to a local farmer, Paul Spollsdoff, Jr.

All the published Rose Queen booklets are on display. Adults who grew up in Wasco from birth or got here during the Depression have written their stories for you to read.

Former newspaperman Wally Shafer left his "Talking Things Up" articles for us to read. He'd get people talking about themselves, where they came from, why they came to Wasco, etc.

This is history. This is the past. What was, can be very interesting. It can help in the future.

The museum has a ramp entrance for wheelchairs and walkers. There are still lovely Wasco afghans for sale; use them as a graduation gift, birthday or thank you gift.

Come look – you might like it.
