The Shafter Generals upped their SSL record to 3-0 after routing the Tigers of Delano High 55-14. The Generals' sophomore quarterback Ezekiel Osborn had 317 yards passing, with three touchdowns. The Tigers' defense was no match for that Shafter offense, who exploded for four scoring plays of over 40 yards each. Maryon Sloan had touchdown receptions of 57 and 46 yards each, while also running a punt back 62 yards for a score. Sloan said that he was just a part of the Shafter offensive machine. "Im just trying to come out and help my team win. We made a few mistakes, but we came together as a team and won the game.," commented Sloan.
Christopher Espinoza only had 10 rushing yards in the first half, but he made up for it big with 10 yards in the second half, eating up yardage and time on the clock.
The Generals started quick, with two scores in the first 10 minutes of the game. The Tigers cut the lead to 12-7 with a long touchdown of their own. But, Shafter would come right back and tack on more points before halftime, taking a 27-7 lead into the locker room.
The Generals kept the pressure on in the second half, using their running game to eat up a lot of minutes off of the clock. With the final score of 55-14, Shafter has tripled their opponents' point totals, having 355 points to their opponents' 101.
Osborn ended the game going 14-24 passing. The Shafter defense had another stellar game, holding the Tigers to 23 yards of offense in the entire second half.
The Generals will have a bye this Friday, giving them two weeks to prepare for probably their biggest test to date, a trip to Delano to take on the Kennedy Thunderbirds.
Coach Pierucci was happy with the win, but said that they still had a long way to go. "We put up 55 points, but we still turned the ball over a couple of times, and missed a few assignments. But, we are improving every game."
