Clay shooting for a cause

The Wasco Elks Lodge #2419 will host its 2nd Annual Clay Shoot Tournament on Saturday, April 6, at the Kern County Gun Club. Jeff Tackett, past exalted ruler, is spearheading the event.

"It's a shotgun start like golf. There are teams of five with 18 stations. Each team will take turns shooting at each station. The highest score among the teams, male, female, youth shooter, will win a trophy."

He invites the community to attend. "Come out. You'll have fun. It's interesting." He also added that it will be special. "It's the camaraderie to meet new people and have a great time enjoying the outdoors."

The event is a fundraiser. "It will help us raise money for a good cause and support handicapped children, veterans, and other efforts."

Tackett has been an Elks Lodge member for 10 years. "We are a benevolent organization of men and women generating funds for worthwhile endeavors. We are nationwide and have a longstanding history of community service."

The event will take place at 12450 Shotgun Road, Bakersfield. Registration is at 7:30 a.m., with the shoot starting at 8:30 a.m. The cost is $125 for each shooter.

"Bring your own shells or purchase them at the gun club," Tackett said.

There will be multiple gun raffles and more, including a Winchester Pump 12 Gauge Black Shadow Shotgun and Glock 21 45 ACP.

Raul's Taco Catering will provide lunch. For more information, contact Tackett at 661 – 979-5615.
