Kern County Public Works will be holding a Free Hazardous Household Waste event at the Shafter/Wasco Landfill on Scofield Avenue in Shafter on Saturday, Feb. 17. The event will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Residents will have a chance to dispose of items that are not accepted with regular trash collection. Examples are batteries, motor oil, paint, light bulbs, pool chemicals, automotive products and cleaning products.
Residents must label all containers, make sure the containers are not leaking and cannot mix wastes into the same container. There is to be no more than 15 gallons or 125 pounds of waste per trip to be accepted.
Also, the event is strictly for residential customers only. Business waste will not be accepted.
In an effort to keep the streets, alleyways and land in the Shafter area free of debris, events such as this are being held to help residents dispose of hazardous materials legally and safely.
For more information, go to the Kern County Public Works website or call 661-862-5100.
