Wasco council approves Measure X members

On a light agenda Tuesday night,, the Wasco City Council approved a couple of residents as new members of the Wasco Sales Tax Oversight Committee (Measure X). John Pallares and Rosalio Armendariz were appointed to serve for an unexpired term ending Dec. 31, 2025.

The council had sent a recruitment notice that was published in the Wasco Tribune advertising for interested candidates. Pallares and Armendariz were both interviewed by Mayor Alex Garcia, City Manager Scott Hurlbert and Councilmember Saldana, and were put forward for a vote. The two were approved unanimously.

As a means of checks and balances for the funds received from Measure X, the 1% sales tax increase, an oversight committee was formed to oversee the effective and efficient utilization of the additional funds. An independent accounting firm also performs an annual audit requried by law.

In other action, the council also discussed and approved a report on the city’s unmet transit needs.
