Lavender Garden 5K to support FFA students

The Wasco AG Boosters will host the first Lavender Garden 5K Run and Walk on Saturday, June 1, opening the Lavender Garden Festival. Proceeds from the run will support Wasco High School FFA students.

Benito Juarez is a Booster member and coordinator of the event. “The organizers of the Lavender Garden Festival wanted to create an event that would draw people to come to the festival, and their thought was to create the run. And they were looking for someone to put it on, and the Wasco AG Boosters decided to take that opportunity that would help us support our FFA students at Wasco High.”

The group supports students with scholarships. “We send them to leadership conferences at the local, state and national levels, and we provide assistance for any need with a student’s livestock project, whether that be a pig, goat, lamb, rabbit or chicken that they compete at the Kern County Fair.”

The 5K run and walk will complement the festival, which coincides with the peak of lavender blossoming in June. The festival will feature food, live music, a DJ and vendors.

It is for all ages and skills. “It is not a competitive run, but people can look forward to making their own personal records. Every participant who finishes will get a medal. Participants can compete against themselves or run or walk around the garden with their family members and then enjoy the rest of the day’s activities at the festival, which starts at 10 a.m.”

Check-in for the 5K run and walk is at 7 a.m., and the race starts at 8. Bib pick-up is at the Wasco High School AG Department Room 3304 on Friday, May 31, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. or at check-in on Saturday.

Pre-registration is $45, and the first 100 are guaranteed a shirt, meal ticket and entry into the Lavender Garden Festival. The registration deadline is May 22. Same-day registration is $50. Shirt sizes and supplies may be limited, Juarez said.

Sponsorships are still available.

The run will take place at Lavender Garden, 14014 CA-46, Lost Hills. For more information, call or text Juarez at 661-333-1522 or email [email protected].
