April 28, 1956 - June 19, 2024
Susan Arney, beloved wife, daughter, sister, aunt and friend, departed this life for her heavenly home on June 19, 2024. She was 68 years old.
Born to a loving family on April 28, 1956, Susan was the daughter of Harvey and Barbara Mizell and sister to Sandi, Vickie, and Randy. She graduated early from Shafter High School in 1974. Soon after graduation, Susan married her childhood sweetheart and the love of her life, Jerry Lee Arney, on Feb. 23, 1974. She devoted herself wholeheartedly to their union, marked
by unwavering love and commitment through times of joy and challenge. Their life together was filled with love and adventure, with some of their favorite adventures in Alaska, Camp Nelson, and Mexico. They dreamed big together, embraced a spirit of wanderlust, and always looked for opportunities to bless others. She will always hold the family title of "most exciting gift giver".
Susan treasured family dinners, time with her nieces, and cruises with friends. She never missed an opportunity to create special moments with those she loved, like sugar cookies at Christmas or special birthday trips. She was well-known for her style, zest for life, and culinary talents.
Susan leaves behind a legacy of love that left a lasting mark on those who were blessed to know her and will affectionately remember her as "Susie". She is survived by her husband,
Jerry Arney; mother, Barbara Mizell; siblings, Vickie and Scott Hight, Randy and Lisa Mizell, and Alan Greagrey; mother-in-law, Lola Arney; family pastors, Lori and Steve Seymour; nieces and nephews; Amy and Adam Straw, Megan and Justin Hallgren, Katie and Brian Gallagher, Natasha and Brad Hobbs, Lynsie and James Anchordoquy, Brandi and Colton Baxley; many great nieces and nephews, extended family, and dear friends. Though we mourn her passing, we take comfort in knowing that she has been reunited with loved ones who went before her.
Susan was preceded in death by her father, Harvey Mizell; sister, Sandi Greagrey; and father-in-law, Jess Arney.
Susan now rests in the arms of her heavenly father. A private interment will take place at Bakersfield National Cemetery and a public service is pending. Arrangements by Peters Funeral Home of Shafter.
