Serving the community since 1922
As the school year approaches, House of Fadez is hosting its annual back-to-school event on Sunday, Aug. 4, providing free haircuts and backpacks to low-income students from kindergarten through 12th grade.
House of Fadez opened its doors a few years ago and quickly became a local favorite. Owner Luis Contreras shared his connection to the event. "I remember how hard things were for my family when I was growing up, and I know how much small acts of support can mean. Now that I can help, a new haircut and backpack in time for school is important."
A friend he met in barber school inspired the event. "He put on a similar event that was very successful for almost 10 years. I saw that he was just one person and thought if he could do it, why not us?"
Contreras emphasized the significance of a fresh start for students. "Going back to school with a new haircut can boost confidence. It's the first day back, and first impressions mean everything. We want every student to start the school year feeling their best."
Last year, they provided 70 haircuts; this year, they aim for 100. With the growing demand this time, Contreras hopes every kid receives a backpack with their haircut. "The House of Fadez team welcomes donations from the community to help reach our goal," he said. "Every contribution makes a difference."
Those interested in contributing can drop off donations at the barbershop. Contreras said any support, whether financial or in the form of school supplies, is greatly appreciated. He also noted that the barbershop will accept donations on the event day.
In addition to the event, Contreras is already considering other ways they can contribute. "In the future, I would like to organize a toy drive during Christmas so it's not just one time a year. We want to continue finding ways to support our community year-round."
House of Fadez's commitment to the community is evident through its actions and plans. By hosting events like the Back-to-School haircut and backpack giveaway, it is making a significant impact on the lives of local students.
The event will take place at the House of Fadez barbershop, 1028 7th St., from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information, call Luis Contreras at 661-240-8224.
