Inductees announced for Wasco Hall of Fame dinner Oct. 26

The Wasco Union High School Athletic Hall of Fame will celebrate its Class of 2024 with an Induction Dinner and Ceremony on Saturday night, Oct. 26. Tickets are now on sale for this biannual event, honoring a remarkable group of athletes and coaches. It will be an evening of recognition and nostalgia, commemorating those who have shaped WHS's athletic legacy.

The Hall of Fame Executive Board president, Kevin Tallon, said, "We have a very special class with some well-deserving honorees. We have one team going in that won their Valley Championship just 12 years ago. So many community members will have fresh memories of their accomplishments. We have our current high school principal, Mr. [Rusvel] Prado, going in as a head football coach, and six other athletes who all had tremendous accomplishments in various sports."

The 2024 Class is:

--Sherril Boyett (football, basketball, track)

--Beth Holtermann (volleyball, basketball, golf)

--Mike Johnson (football, wrestling)

--Sean Medley (football, wrestling)

--Coach Rusvel Prado (football)

--Veronica Sanchez (cross country, track)

--Kayla Wilburn (volleyball, basketball)

--2012 Football Team

The Hall of Fame Executive Board includes Vice President Sharon Sharp, Treasurer Bobby Salinas and Secretary Shannon Sandoval. Committee members are Joe Hively, David Lucas, Wanda Eskew, Josh Huddleston, David Ward, Ryan Newman, Bill Peck and Jeff Wedel.

Each inductee will be recognized with a medal and a commemorative plaque. All of the inductees or someone on their behalf will present, and a biography and video montage chronicling their accomplishments will be shown.

Tallon said a highlight of the evening is "when you see old teams and athletes come together almost in a reunion-type format. It's great to see them reminisce and catch up."

He noted that two ceremonies ago, the Hall of Fame decided to have the Induction Ceremony on the WHS campus, "which is nice because some people may not have been back on campus in many years, and they get to see how beautiful the campus is today."

Tallon said that attending the event allows attendees to see all the athletes honored in a heartfelt ceremony while continuing to support the Hall of Fame, a small nonprofit. "The nonprofit coordinates each induction class every two years and maintains the history of the Hall of Fame on a website," he explained.

The WUHS Athletic HOF was established to permanently identify and honor individuals who exhibited high ethical standards and integrity while achieving athletic excellence at Wasco Union High School.

"We just hope you'll come out and support us that evening as we honor the members of this class."

Doors open at 5 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6 p.m. The event will take place at the high school cafeteria at 1900 7th St. Tickets are $75 per person and can be purchased at wascohighathletichof.com/induction-dinner until sold out. For more information, email [email protected].
