The Wasco High Tigers traveled to Morro Bay on Friday night and came away with a 32-28 win, improving to 2-1 in the young season.
The Tigers' offense showed a more balanced attack than in recent years, with quarterback Miguel Gomez mixing a strong running game with timely passing.
Early in the game, the Tigers took advantage of a turnover in Pirates territory, turning it into a 12-7 lead in the second quarter. But, before halftime, the Pirates retook the lead, scoring on one of quarterback Sands Dougherty's four touchdown passes on the night, going into the locker room with a 14-12 lead.
Morro Bay extended the lead to 21-12 in the third quarter. But, the fourth quarter belonged to the Tigers, with Gomez using a ball control offense that chewed up yardage and resulted in 20 fourth-quarter points for the Tigers, including a 26-yard touchdown pass by Gomez, securing the win.
Head Coach Chad Martinez and company will be returning to their home field on Friday night, taking on the Tehachapi Warriors, who clobbered Taft last week, 42-0.
Wasco will look to extend their home-field winning streak to six games, including four straight wins from last year.
