Recreation and Parks hosts Halloween event

The Wasco Recreation and Parks District hosted its 5th Annual Trunk or Treat event, transforming the evening into a delightful celebration of Halloween for families and children. There were creatively decorated trunks, a plethora of candy, a festive atmosphere, and hundreds of residents, all eager to enjoy a memorable night of trick-or-treating.

WRPD District Manager Chris Serna said in an interview after the event, "Our annual Trunk or Treat was a great success. Our community came together for a fun-filled evening of trick-or-treating, games and festivities. Many children and families dressed in creative costumes visited decorated trunks to collect candy and treats. A special thank you to all our partners who contributed to the event's positive outcome and helped us with our mission of providing a free, fun, safe and enjoyable event for our community!"

The Wasco Police Department joined in the fun, with Chief of Police Charles Fivecoat commenting, "A thrill for me is all the little kids and the parents are out here with their children helping them celebrate Halloween. It amazes me the sense of community, and we absolutely love being here with them.'"

Wasco firefighters were also present, and Captain Sean Flanagan shared that he felt grateful to be there seeing the smiles on the kids' faces. He added that involvement in community events like the WRPD Trunk or Treat is important to him. "Because we interact with them on emergency calls, it's nice to see them in a public setting, doing well. This always brings us a lot of pleasure. We do it every year, and we're always glad to support the Rec and Wasco.'"

Resident Alex Wood shared, "It's great to see the Police Department and the firefighters doing events like this. It's awesome and great for the little ones to see everyone united on Halloween and not be scary."

Councilmember Gilberto Reyna represented the city. "There were hundreds of parents, along with their babies, small children, and teenagers dressed as princesses, fairies, superheroes, cartoon characters, farm animals, and even prehistoric dinosaurs, who made their way to the trunk or treat and our City of Wasco Dial-a-Ride table! Some family dogs even joined the fun in their costumes."

Prizes were awarded for the best costumes, and Christian Garcia, age 10, dressed as "Kid Pool," a child-friendly take on Deadpool from the Marvel comic series, and Mar Angelica Garcia, age 6, dressed as Snow White, both won first place for their custom-designed costumes. Their mom, Diana, explained, "Everything was handmade. Hers is hand-sewn, and so is his. I'm a seamstress. They like the attention. They told me what they wanted to be, and then I started working on them two months in advance.'"

She added the children had a great time. "They enjoyed themselves tonight and were so excited that they were recognized for their original costumes."
