Holiday cheer to light up Downtown Shafter

Get ready for the City of Shafter's Christmas Tree Lighting, Sing and Community Celebration in downtown Shafter this Monday. Enjoy a night of holiday cheer to honor local athletes, savor delicious food and music, and end the evening with a visit from Santa. Distinguished Young Woman of Shafter, Camryn Eubanks, will light the 22-foot community Christmas tree.

"It's huge. This year, we are doing a white theme with big snowflakes, iridescent ribbons, and white and silver ornaments. The Lions Club is bringing the snow machine. We are trying to bring in a winter wonderland," Community engagement manager and event organizer Rachel Zermeno said.

The celebration will feature special performances by the Distinguished Young Woman of Shafter Class of 2025, Jess Alberto and the Richland Jr. High Choir singing Christmas favorites. Entertainment will also be provided by Shafter Canyon Hills church and Shafter High School.

This year, the Commanders football team, Shafter High varsity football team, varsity girls tennis team and varsity girls volleyball team will be recognized for their outstanding athletic achievements.

Many community partners are contributing to the event. The Shafter Police Department will offer games and activities, the Shafter Library & Learning Center will give away free backpacks, and Shafter Animal Control will distribute plush stuffed animals while supplies last. North Kern Christian School will provide free popcorn. Vendors, including Universe Inc., Frenchies Mini Donuts, Aguas Karen, The 5's Pizza, and Sabor Taino BBQ, will serve a variety of foods and treats.

A highlight of the evening will be Santa's arrival, topping off the celebration by sharing gifts with little ones and taking photos.

The Public Works Department has been preparing downtown for the festivities, from setting up the Christmas tree to stringing lights and displays and ensuring the streets and public spaces are ready for the community to enjoy.

"Thank you to everyone – volunteers, performers, vendors, sports teams and organizations – who are helping to create an unforgettable celebration. We can't wait to see everyone there!"

The event begins aty 5 p.m. in downtown Shafter.
