Pastor's Corner: God's indescribable gift

Do you still remember that special Christmas gift you received as a child? I remember receiving a BB gun and footballs and baseball gloves and toy soldiers. As a kid I had so much fun with those gifts. In 2nd Corinthians 9:15 Paul says, ”Thanks be unto God for His unspeakable gift.” It is speaking of an indescribable gift. Paul was so thankful for the gift that God gave to mankind. No words can truly express the greatness of this gift. This gift is truly too wonderful for words. This indescribable gift is God’s only begotten Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.

In Christ we have an indescribable salvation. John 3:16 says, "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him would not perish but have everlasting life.” It’s an indescribable gift because it’s free. Ephesians 2:8-9 says, It’s the gift of God; we can’t work for it or buy it, it’s a gift from God. This indescribable gift changed my life. It gave purpose and direction in life. It’s the best choice I ever made, accepting Jesus into my life.

In Christ we have indescribable peace. Philippians 4:7 says, “The peace of God passes all understanding.” This peace surpasses and excels above all understanding. It’s like a group of soldiers that guard our hearts and minds. The world may seem like its going crazy, but this indescribable gift of peace keeps me.

In Christ I have indescribable contentment. Philippians 4:11 says, “I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content.” It took time and trials for Paul to learn this inner conviction. A lack of contentment will cause you, too, to look at what others have, so that you are never satisfied. Contentment is knowing that you belong to God and that He will take care of all your needs. Contentment in the Lord brings great peace.

In Christ I have indescribable joy. The joy of the Lord is my strength. No matter what we face in life, the joy of the Lord will see us through. Jesus said He wants our joy to be full. David once cried out for God to restore the joy of his salvation. A person said happiness is cosmetic, but joy deals with inward character. Jesus Christ is truly God’s indescribable gift to the world.
