WCSA scholarships open now

The Wasco Community Scholarship Association application period for the 2025-2026 academic year is officially open. Wasco Union High School graduating seniors and alumni can now apply for scholarships to help fund their educational pursuits. Applications must be postmarked by March 3.

For nearly 60 years, WCSA has been dedicated to empowering WUHS graduates to achieve their goals through education and life. Since its inception in 1965, the association has awarded over a million dollars in scholarships, making an impact on students and families in the community.

WCSA offers scholarships for a range of educational programs, including four-year colleges and universities, two-year colleges, trade and technical schools, and medical schools.

Four-year university and college scholarships will be granted for $4,000, while scholarships for two-year colleges and trade or technical schools will be awarded for $2,000. Medical students can receive up to $8,000 annually. These scholarships reflect the association's commitment to supporting the educational aspirations of local students, many of whom come from low-income backgrounds.

The selection process is highly competitive, and WUHS graduates must complete a rigorous scholarship application. Applicants must submit their transcripts, references, a record of school and community activities, employment history and a one-page essay.

After the March 3 deadline, applications will be reviewed by the WCSA Awards Committee. Scholarship recipients will be notified in May. Medical student applications follow a separate schedule.

"This organization is special to me because I grew up in Wasco and graduated from Wasco High in 1985," said WCSA publicity chair Sharon Sharp. "As a graduating senior, I received a Wasco Community Scholarship, which helped me pursue my college degree. Now, as a member of the board and an employee of Wasco High School, I have the privilege of encouraging my students to apply. I tell them what a blessing it is to be supported by your community, and no matter how much aid you get, there is something significant about being awarded a scholarship by your town."

WCSA awards will be presented during the WUHS Winner's Circle ceremony, which recognizes senior achievement at the end of the school year.
